Frulo features
Frulo is a calorie and macro tracker for iPhone built around the camera rather than a search box. Below is what it actually does, in detail.

The AI food scanner reading a plate from a single photo.
The AI nutritionist answering with your own logged numbers.
Recipes with calories and macros already broken down.
Weight trend, calorie averages and macro splits over time.
AI food scanner
Photograph any meal and Frulo estimates the calories and macros of what is actually on the plate. A vision model identifies the separate foods, estimates their portions, and returns a breakdown you can edit before saving. If the food is not in front of you, describe it in words instead and the same estimate runs on the description.
The photo is analyzed and discarded — never saved on your device by Frulo, never stored on our servers. How accurate this is, and when to use it instead of a barcode, is covered on the AI calorie counter page.
Your AI nutritionist
A coach that already knows what you ate. It can read your journal, your statistics, product lookups and your saved recipes, so questions like “am I getting enough protein this week?” are answered from your real data rather than in general terms.
It also keeps coach memories— short facts you ask it to remember, such as a dairy intolerance, a nut allergy or foods you simply will not eat — and applies them to later suggestions. Every memory is listed in Settings and can be deleted individually. You can talk to it by voice, and the dictation is transcribed on your device by Apple’s speech recognition, so the audio never leaves your iPhone.
Barcode scanner
Point the camera at a packaged food and the whole nutrition panel drops into your diary — exact values from the label rather than an estimate. The packaged-food data comes from Open Food Facts under the ODbL licence, mirrored on our own servers, so Open Food Facts never sees what you scan or search for.
Log with Siri
“Hey Siri, log a bowl of oatmeal.” The entry goes into your diary without unlocking the phone or opening the app — the fastest path for the repeat meals that are not worth photographing.
Healthy recipes
A library of recipes worth cooking, each already broken down into calories and macros per serving, with ingredients and steps. You can also describe a recipe of your own and have Frulo estimate its nutrition, then save it with its ingredients and per-serving numbers for reuse.
Targets built for you
Onboarding asks for your gender, year of birth, height, activity level, goal — lose, maintain, or build muscle — target weight and the weekly pace you want. From those it sets a daily calorie target and protein, carbohydrate and fat targets to match, rather than handing you a generic 2,000 kcal.
Apple Health, both ways
Frulo writes what you log into Apple Health: energy, protein, carbohydrates, fat, sugar, fibre, saturated fat, sodium, water and body weight. It reads back your active energy and body weight, so the calories you burn moving are added to the budget you have left to eat and your weight trend stays current without double entry. Every permission is optional and revocable in the iOS Health app.
Water and weight
Both are tracked separately with their own daily targets — water by the glass or bottle as you drink it, weight as a series of weigh-ins that feed the trend line on the statistics screen.
Progress you can see
Weight trend, calorie averages and macro splits over time, so you can tell how the week really went rather than reacting to a single day. This is the screen that matters most when using photo-based estimates, because it is the average across many meals that is reliable, not any one of them.
Privacy by design
Meal photos are never stored. There is no advertising SDK, no tracking permission request, no sale of your data and no sharing of it for advertising. Anything Frulo holds you can delete yourself — a single entry, one coach memory, or the entire account in one tap from Settings. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is stored and who processes it.
